Boutique motorcycle builder Janus is going racing—flat track racing. And that is quite a cool thing. We first told you about Janus back in 2019 as a small operation out of Indiana. Their founders, Richard Worsham and Devin Biek, started Janus as restorers and modifiers of mopeds and later started hand-building small-displacement single-cylinder machines with a very retro look.

Now, five years later, Janus has upped its design game with a new scrambler model, the Gryffin 450. Equipped with a 445 cc single-cylinder SWM engine making a claimed 30 horsepower, the new machine is being prepared to race in this year’s America Flat Track race in Sturgis. Janus’ Jordan Lake and veteran flat track racer Blake Wharton are preparing the machine and Wharton will be at the helm when the Janus Gryffin takes the green flag.

To tell people know about their build, Janus has posted a couple of YouTube videos about their build. The first video covers the build of the race bike’s chassis. The second video gives you glimpses of a Gryffin 450 running an oval at Janus’ super secret testing facility (i.e. a grass covered open field) somewhere in Indiana. They also chat about what changes are necessary to make the stock Gryffin race ready and competitive. All in all, it’s an exciting project for a small American motorcycle company.

To get the bike ready and compete in Sturgis, Janus is also looking for sponsorship money. If you are interested in sponsoring the Janus team click on over to Janus’s dedicated webpage. There you learn more about sponsorship opportunities and Janus’ plans to race at Sturgis.
