Good day and welcome to ADVrider’s Photos of the Week extravaganza, which this week is spelled in smaller type for a reason that will shortly be quite apparent — but, hey! Thanks to those who did contribute! We’re starting with a Featured Photo that’s not as spectacular as at least one other in this week’s class, but that makes a statement that rings true for anyone who loves ADV riding. @Jedi2Rider is in Japan right now and bought this 2015 Honda Super Cub 50 recently “to mess around on dirt roads in central Hokkaido.” We chose this as our top photo of the week for its message of simplicity and determination: if you want adventure, get on something and go somewhere! You don’t need a GS1300 or a T7, and this pic makes that abundantly clear.

Here are more from Mr. Jedi2Rider, who submitted five in all, and didn’t seem to expect that we’d use them all.

Slapped some Shinko 244s on there and off I went. My “big” bike (KLX 250) hibernates in America awaiting its yearly BDR excursion, but I wanted something for fun around where I live in Japan. Long story short, it’s easier license-wise, paperworkwise, plate-wise (Free!) to go with a 50 here. Plus I thought it was kinda fun . . . back to the super-basics! It’s great getting 225 mpg!!

Anyway, I’ll send several pics. Just choose the ones you like. If a Cub isn’t exactly what you want in the POTW, no worries. But I thought, if you want some pics from Japan, then here you go. All are farm roads or back roads, plus a local Buddhist temple.

Many thanks to Jedi2Rider. We’ve enjoyed our trip to Japan!

And now, some bigger bikes

Here are two shots from @The Bear, who says he had a couple of days free in Munich on a recent European trip, “and visited the Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum (traffic center). It has some good examples of famous motorcycles like the bright red Megola with its five-cylinder engine in the front wheel.”

“It also has an example of the world’s first production motorcycle, a Hildebrand & Wolfmuller with a liquid-cooled 1488 cc twin cylinder four-stroke engine producing 2.5 hp at 600 rpm. That’s the one that looks like a bicycle with a copper tank.”

Ring around the road

Here is a Ducati Desert X that has just been riding around the “amazing Durmitor Ring Road” and then gone “down to Pluzine town” says contributor @list3ner. He says that Piva Lake on the left. All this, of course, is in the Balkans, in the country of Montenegro, which is across the Adriatic Sea from Italy.

Georgia on his mind

Here are three shots from @Tall steve, including one that we had thought would be our Featured item, until we came across that idealistic and adventuresome Super Cub. Anyway, this is a 2022 Yamaha Tenere World Raid, and it’s in the country of Georgia. Tall steve says these pictures were taken “in and above Ushguli in the north west of the country near the Russian border.”

The pix were taken a couple of weeks ago. “This pass has only been open about 2 weeks since the snow was cleared and the mud bulldozed into a road.”

And here is the shot we first thought we’d use at the top of this page. Do click: it’s worth it.

Those green-clad hills backed by rather spectacular snow-capped peaks really grab the eye, and we’re glad Mr Tall had the good sense to photograph them and share with us. He says he’s “just over a month into a 3-month Celebrate Retirement Ride and will travel next to Armenia.” We hope we’ll have more from this rider.

And that’s all there is for POTW this week. Some nice shots and a big thank you to all. If you would like to help keep POTW from becoming a former feature of ADVrider, please contribute! It’s easy, just look down (on your screen, we mean). Click the orange!
